In praise of shoulder robing!
I love shoulder robing! it's a great way to wear the collar up which in turn elongates the neck and decolletage, creating a vertical line or 'panel effect' down the front of the body which gives the illusion of being taller and is at the same time, quite slimming.
It's also a perfect way to have fun with layering e.g. a coat over a jacket, or cape over a biker jacket which is very fitting for this time of year and the unpredictable autumnal temperatures! It also allows you to have fun with different textures and adds interest, in particular, if you are opting for a mono-tone look (i.e. one colour which is very on-trend) - it gives the impression of a more luxurious finish.
'Shrobing’ is a very popular styling hack with celebrities and royals - it creates drama, a beautiful silhouette and fluidity of movement, without looking like they have tried too hard - there's an air of understated cool about this look. It's the ultimate in laid back chic.
It harks back to the Hollywood era when stars would throw a beautiful stole over their shoulders for a glamorous event.
When it comes to sporting this look yourself, don't do it if you feel self-conscious or awkward! I personally love it as it's fun and a great way to experiment with layering. To pull the look off successfully, make sure your jacket has well-structured shoulders to prevent slipping, and a little stylist trick is to use a little wig tape to keep the jacket in place or wear an artfully placed handbag to secure it.
A shirt collar up with this look also looks fabulous. It's a sophisticated look and if you look good, you will feel good.
This is a real way of dressing for the life you want. It's a way to look glamorous, empowered and let's face it, a little famous!! Attract the glamour you want in your life with this look. It adds a little mystique and intrigue, an element of "who's that woman wearing that look?"
It's not for shrinking violets… but if you fancy upping the X-Factor, give it a go!
